As English and American engineering had a profound influence on engineering of the 19th Century including Australia, this talk should provide a meaningful perspective for understanding Victoria's Civil Engineering Heritage.

Dr. Griggs is a prominent member of the American Society of Civil Engineers' Committee of History and Heritage of American Civil Engineering; and current Editor of the Biographical Dictionary of American Civil Engineering.

Dr. Griggs has been invited to Australia as the 1990 Eminent Overseas Speaker by the IEAust Board of Engineering. He is also the keynote speaker at the 5th National Conference on Engineering Heritage in Perth 3-5 December 1990
