Bridge construction in Australia coincides with the age of the industrial revolution and, as in other countries, shows a remarkable diversity in material and form. This address will illustrate the variety of Australian bridges and trace their development with time.
In June this year the author was commissioned to nominate bridges for inclusion in the Register of the National Estate. The formation of a list of consistent quality has required the use of objective criteria - the form of these criteria will be discussed and they will also be used to identify some of the more significant Australian bridges.
Copies of Professor O'Connors book will be on sale at the meeting at the cost of $4.50 each.
