Engineering Heritage Regional Tour
Ballaarat and Daylesford

Saturday 24 November 2007
Sunday, 25 November 2007

This is a guided "self-drive" tour of regional facilities,
mostly dating back to the Victorian Gold Rush.

Meeting Time:   9.30 am on Saturday 24 November 2007
Meeting Place:   To be advised but will be near the Moorabool Reservoir.
The meeting point is about 75 minutes from the Westgate Bridge via the Western Freeway.

Final itinerary and maps will be provided as part of the booking & registration process (see below).

On Saturday morning:
We will look at the Ballarat water supply system (pre 1915 back to about 1869). Central Highlands Water is allowing access to facilities not normally open to the public. Lunch (at own cost) will be at Ballarat and the afternoon will be spent viewing (optionally) City statuary & fountains OR a tour of the 19th century railway facilities and storm water works. Afternoon tea will be provided (at no cost). A walking tour of the historic buildings of the Ballarat CBD will follow in the late afternoon.

Saturday Dinner:   (at own cost and optional)
We will probably meet for an evening meal but the arrangements will be made "on the day" and will be entirely optional.

Sunday:
We will start early for the mining precinct of Creswick, then on to Anderson's Oat Mill, a Monash bridge and stone highway bridge over Birch's Creek. Lunch (at own expense) will be at Daylesford before concluding with a return trip on the Central Highlands tourist railway.

Bookings:   ARE ESSENTIAL and, as usual, participants need not be members of EA etc.
However, all participants must be registered in advance (even if you intend to join us part way through the Tour).
To Book and Register:   Please respond by sending an email to events@consuleng.com.au and put "Ballaarat Daylesford Regional Tour" in the Subject Line. Don't forget to include the names of the participants in the Text of the message. Numbers will be limited.

Please Note :   Saturday 24 November is Federal Election Day. We have no idea of where the Polling Booths are in the Ballarat area, nor do we know at what times the tour will be near other towns or villages likely to have Polling Booths. If you are intending to join us on this Regional tour and feel that your situation on that day complies with the requirements of the legislation, you can apply for a Postal Vote.
