The Evolution of Engineering Drawing and Drawing Instruments.

Thursday, 2 November 2006

Speaker: Bruce Sandie
Place:   Auditorium, Engineering House,
21 Bedford Street, North Melbourne
Time:   Refreshments at 5.30pm. Talk will commence at 6.00 pm, and conclude about 7:00pm

The Subject:
Engineering drawings are essential communication tools, used as a design aid and to record the designer's intent and transmit it to other parties, such as builders and manufacturers. As technology has developed, engineering drawings have become increasingly sophisticated, particularly since the Industrial Revolution. This presentation will survey the evolution of drawings and the instruments used to produce them, from the Middle Ages to modern computer based systems.

The Speaker:
Bruce Sandie is a former Chairman of Engineering Heritage Victoria. He is a keen collector of maps, plans, drawings, drawing instruments - and slide rules. Those who attended Bruce's talk on "Slide Rules" some years ago will certainly remember his excellence of presentation and thorough knowledge of the subject. His collection of drawing instruments etc surpasses that of his slide rules so we can look forward to a thoroughly well researched presentation.
