Historic Engineering Plaquing Program
- When, Where and How

To bring deserved public attention and recognition to historic engineering works and sites, in 1984 the Institution of Engineers, Australia commenced a programme to identify, commemorate and plaque significant works.

This talk will cover the background to the 'Australian Historic Engineering Plaquing Program', the types of works plaqued, the rationale behind assessing heritage significance, and the advantages of the programme to Engineers Australia and the community.

The Speaker:
Bill Jordan is Chair of Engineering Heritage Australia's Commemorative Plaquing Sub-Committee. A consulting civil and structural engineer specializing in conservation of heritage buildings and structures, he is principal of Bill Jordan & Associates Pty Ltd, based in Newcastle, N.S.W. He has had a long involvement with engineering heritage activities of IEAust, and has served as Chair of the National Committee on Engineering Heritage, the predecessor to Engineering Heritage Australia. Also, he is active in other areas of Engineers Australia and is immediate past president of the Newcastle Division.
