BURMA RAILWAY

The speaker, Terry Beaton, is a mechanical engineer, graduating from Duntroon into the Corps of the Royal Australian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. During a posting to Thailand as the Military Mechanical Engineering Advisor, he became interested in the Burma Railway and began researching and writing on its history.

After moving to the Inactive Reserve, he became, in 1999, the first Australian Curator of the Australian Governmentıs Memorial Museum at Hellfire Pass on the Burma Railway close to the Thai-Burma border. Since returning to Australia in late 2001, he has maintained his research interest in the railway while acting as a consultant to businesses operating in Asia, and is now writing a book to be entitled "The Travellerıs Guide to the Burma Railway."
