What is EEEC.

EEEC aims to promote a holistic approach to environmental education and sustainable practices in early childhood and the early years of primary school. The approach involves policy development, house keeping practices, play and learning experiences and strategies for working with children, staff and parents. Environmental Education in Early Childhood (Vic) Inc was established in June 1992. Initially, our founding members conducted in-services on environmental education which generated a great amount of interest leading to the formation of the EEEC organization. Regular informal meetings emerged to provide support, resources, networking and problem solving for members

Philosophy

The fostering of a positive attitude towards the environment needs to occur at an early age in order for a child to develop into an environmentally responsible and sensitive adult. Young children may not be old enough to understand why they should be concerned with environmental neglect, but they are old enough to appreciate the beauty of the world and to begin developing good habits (Spodek, 1991).

“One of the greatest tasks for society then is to equip children with the attitudes, values, knowledge and skills necessary to rethink and change current patterns of action and to secure healthy, just and sustainable futures for all. (Davis and Cooke,1996). ”

Operations

The group operates as a not for profit, grass roots incorporated organization. All committee members operate within a voluntary capacity. Currently the group has many members throughout Victoria and Australia and is often called upon for speakers, demonstrations and information. It regularly links with sister groups in other states. A membership fee applies to cover operational costs. Visiting speakers can be arranged for a reasonable cost.
