Director's Note

In an attempt to escape the buzzwords associated with contemporary theatre, I've resorted to inventing one of my own for which I apologise in advance.  This came from a sincere and painful difficulty in articulating what "exactly" the work is like.

I have an almost pathological hatred of articulation, or maybe its just a fear but whatever it is, the process of defining a style - or a work - often results in the squashing of whatever spark it originally had before someone boxed it.

That said how do we address the fact that people do, rightly enough, want to have some idea of what we're about -  so we've invented a new buzzword.  Hopefully it won't be catchy enough to get around.

Hybrid theatre for me means a lot of things but basically this - "what it takes to get the job done".  The freedom to reach widely and utilise an eclectic range of styles or skills to best serve the piece we're making.  This freedom can produce surprising and refreshing results, stemming as it does not from a desire to be "different" but to best serve the piece.
