Basically, Angel Fall was an idea for a novel begun
with Alia Dann (Holy Ozone - London 1989) that never got beyond the second
page before disolving into too many cups of tea. The germ was nonetheless
sown and it went on to become a street theatre piece (The Immaculate Misconception
- Paris 1991), that became a creative development period, that became Angel
Fall (Melbourne, June 1998).
Originally concieved towards the end of Margaret Thatchers "renovations" to the British economy and society, when economic rationalism was running rife, it was if anything too late for the UK. The story had somewhat lost its edge, everything had already been sold up the river. Returning to Australia in 1995 came as both a shock and a pleasure. To see Aus seemingly repeating the patterns which the country I'd just left was busily trying to recover from was the shock. The pleasure was realising that Angel Fall was more relevant than ever. |
