Angel Fall 

            Eclectic Pelican’s work, both in creative process and performance, is a mixture of tight structure and free improvisation. Improvisation, in particular, is central to the devising process of the company. Scenes from a skeleton script are used as launch points for a series of improvisations that explore key themes in the piece. Improvisation also serves to define the visual language and physical vocabulary as the starting point for movement decisions. This process tends to yield material and structures which would be impossible to find through more rational processes and allows the emerging script/story to be deepened and broadened in a highly satisfactorily irrational way.

    Thus the material develops organically and continuously - as a living, breathing thing - throughout the life of the project yet retains a strong sense of form and structure. As this form and structure has been evolved from within the piece, when it is married with the improvisational edge of the performance it creates a high level of  authenticity. The audience to the performances are actively involved in the ongoing development of the material and come away with a strong sense of connection to it. 
 
 

We hope in the future to take this open and flexible process one step further with an ongoing diary of the work being broadcast on the Internet. In this way you'll be able to not only observe the creative process and narrative developments in real time but to make suggestions and comments on that process.
