A Preemie Child
Book Reviews

By: Allison Martin
Preemie-child is a email support listserv for parents of children who were born prematurely and are now 4 years or older. Children who are born very prematurely may continue to have disabilities and/or special needs which require attention as they enter school and society. The mailing list brings together this small (but growing) group of families for support as we learn from each other's experiences.

  • The New Child Health Encyclopedia : The Complete Guide for Parents. Frederick H., Jr. Lovejoy, David Estridge (Editor). 1995. Delta; ISBN: 0440506468
I purchased an older edition of this book nine years ago, when my son was one year old, and I still refer to it several times a year. It is best used as a reference for disability diagnoses or unusual health conditions. We have used it to clarify doctor’s reports or to get an overview of various disability conditions and infectious diseases.

---- I would love to hear your suggestions for other books which would be helpful for parents of older preemies (please write a note to me at cyberfam@mindspring.com ).
