Walk Against Want.
By Anand Chandna

I met Stephen Lavender on Sunday 29th April at the Eastern Suburbs Walk at Pakenham St. Blackburn. I have participated in this walk. It was a wonderful experience.

I am now 81 yrs old. I have been participating in the annual Oxfam walks for over 10 years with DV group. Since this year this walk was unfortunately  discontinued I had to join the Eastern Suburban Group walk. I am highly impressed by the way of devotion and dedication by this group - so well meticulously planned and organised - over forty volunteers doing their assigned  chore with cheerful disposition.

There were over 230 walkers - elderly, young, children, mothers with their babies in prams, quite a few men and women and children on their bikes. The route in the Blackburn Reserve and Lake was most scenic full of bird life. I am told the collection up to the conclusion of walk is over A$28,000 and their target is more than the last years collection of A$32,000.

We congratulate  the enthusiastic members of Oxfam - the organisers and the participants.

I would like you to publish my comments in the DV group New Letter this month to inspire our members to start working from  now onward for our own group's in Eltham walk next year.
