Development Projects
with Aboriginal Women
in Alice Springs
With Kate Bean

Kate will talk about her time working with Aboriginal women in health projects--empowering the women to take charge of their own problems, and have a self sustainable program, not one imposed from above.

This sort of work is very much along the line of Oxfam's development work in other countries. It's a very real attempt to overcome the welfare mentality and develop sustainability.

Although this is the long weekend, do try and come along as we begin to tackle and try to understand the needs of our indigenous people and the poor quality "aid" that has been dealt out to them in the past.

An excellent time for a Q and A session with Kate.

Walk Against Want
Sunday March 5th 2006

By the time you receive this newsletter, the Walk Against Want will really be upon us. If you receive this newsletter electronically, there is still time to gather up friends and family and do the walk on Sunday.
Even without a sponsorship book.  We hope to see you all walking or volunteering.

Book Fair Update

We are able to use the space under the Eltham Library to store books for our next book fair which will probably be in October.

We are extremely grateful to the Nillumbik Council for facilitation this for us.

People wanting to deposit books will have to contact Stephen (9439-2063) or Beth (9439-1716) as they are the only people with keys.

We will not be asking Library Staff to open up for us !

As our keys are internal keys, we can only open up during Library Hours:
10:00am to 8:30 pm Tue, Wed, Thur
10:00am to 5:00 pm Fri, Sat
1:00pm to 5:00 pm Sun
Closed Monday.

No Meeting in April

Winter Solstice Event

Instead of a dinner, it is suggested this year we have a "Knees Up" - Folk and Country dancing, music and a rollicking good supper. We hope that appeals to all. We will keep you informed on details, but it will probably be in July.
