Welcome Back !
Friday Feb. 10th
First Meeting for 2006
Diamond Valley Community
Development Tour to India

During January, a group of 12  local Oxfam members traveled to India looking at long term development projects in Eastern India, mainly in Orissa. The group also visited some Tsunami restoration work in Tamil Nadu. All members gained tremendous insight into Oxfam's work and some of them will be telling you of their experiences at this meeting.

It was a very successful trip, so be sure to come along and hear some very interesting stories, especially about the inspiration people who we met along the way.

At this meeting we also want to discuss the program for the year, and welcome suggestions for future meetings. One suggestion has been to have a more in depth study of Aboriginal affairs in Australia.

We look forward to seeing you all on the 10th Feb.

Brian Moran and
Oxfam Christmas Trees

In this years Australia Day Awards, Brian Moran, who has run the Christmas Tree fund raiser for 15 years, which has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for Oxfam, has been awarded the Order of Australia medal (OAM) for "service to the community, particularly as a fundraiser for Oxfam Community Aid Abroad".

Brian has also run Fitzroy Group's Quiz Against Want for countless years and for years made coffee at the Walk Against Want.

Brian richly deserves this award and we send him our hearty congratulations. Brian wishes to acknowledge the help of the many volunteers who assisted him in this work over the years.

In 2005 the Christmas Tree program raised over $85,000. A truly magnificent result.
