2004

A small group of our DVOCAA members met recently to do some forward planning for  2004 and to find ways to use the skills and enthusiasm of members which would both reduce the President's load and provide involvement and creative opportunities for people who feel they can or would like to contribute more.

It was suggested we might prioritize three key issues to concentrate on, and use these as a base for developing knowledge and advocacy skills while still maintaining our fund raising activities.
Individual issues of campaigns might be:

  • Make Trade Fair
  • Globalization
  • Asylum Seeker / Refugees / Human Rights
or some other issue which relates to Oxfam and is important to you, or interests you. We would hope to build up a familiarization with each issue and keep up to date through speakers, discussions, workshops etc.

We would also like to break down the administrative duties to spread the load and to have more people active in the group, by adding a group of coordinators to the present list. Eg
  • Printing and distribution of newsletter, though we plan to do most by email to save work and postage.
  • Walk Against Want
  • Suppers - when necessary
  • Events Roster eg. Dinner, Bookfair and Festival
  • Eltham Festival
  • Publicity
  • Campaigns
Perhaps the Presidents role could be more a primary contact with OCAA and a campaign officer to help with organizing meetings. Please bring ideas to our AGM so we can have some discussion and prepare for a dynamic start to 2004.
