Activities
The strength of the club lies in its excellent walks program. Walks programs are published twice yearly,October - March and April - September.
All walks offered by the club are graded – Easy, Easy/Medium, Medium, Medium/Hard or Hard to provide some guidance as to the level of fitness, experience and equipment required. The program includes the following activities:
· Day Walks: Diamond Valley Bush Walking Club has day walks every Wednesday and Sunday throughout the year. The Wednesday program usually has two activities each week, an easy and a medium walk or a bike ride and a walk. The range of walks offered include metropolitan walking trails, forest, mountain and coastal walking.
The social aspect of walking is encouraged and participants gather at a common meeting place and pool cars for the trip to the walk start. Most day walks are within one hours’ drive of the usual meeting place in Eltham.
· Back Packs: There are a number of keen back packers in the club who organise regular expeditions into the Victorian wilderness. There are usually 9 or 10 backpacks a year on the program.
· Base Camps: Club members offer an exciting range of base camps in each program. A walks program is prepared for each day of the base camp for the enjoyment of all participants.
· Cycling: Cycling activities are offered as an alternative to walking but usually when a cycling activity is arranged, a walk is also available for those unable or not interested in riding. Bike riding weekends are also occasionally offered on the program.
· Overseas Trips: Overseas
walking or tourist trips are a regular feature.
Recent
trips organised by members include the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, the Karakoram Highway, China, Austrian Alps, Nepal, Borneo and of course New
Zealand.
· Interstate Trips: Trips to the North West, Blue Mountains, Central Australia, Tasmania and Lord Howe Island to name a few, are also well patronised.
