From Our Newsletter

The December issue of the DTHS Newsletter includes an article
by John Boylett, the second in a series outlining the results of his research into items held by the Society.
This time it is the treadle sewing machine displayed in the bedroom of Schramm's Cottage.

It was made in the 1860's by Tuanka of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

It was owned by Kate Schramm, and used by Kate & her mother, Eliza Pickering
to teach needlework and sewing in the school room of the cottage.
It was passed down through several generations, finally reaching Mrs Alice Clague (nee Crossman) of Castlemaine.
Mrs Crague donated it to DTHS in 2013.
