In late 1998 DC comics announded a special "5th Week" or "SkipWeek" mini-series of comic scheduled for March 1999.  The Theme was "The Justice Society Returns!" and the stars were the legendary Justice Society of America. Over the course of three weeks from mid to late March, nine comics would be released, each title a revival of a classic golden age comic. Together they created an "new" classic World War Two adventure of the Original Superhero Group.

With two endpapers (All-Star Comics 1 & 2 - ironically the only two golden age issues of this title that did not star the JSA) and seven chapters pairing some of the greatest and most popular heroes of the original heroic age of comics this series set the scene for the return of the JSA back into publication with on-going contemporary adventures.

The publicity for the mini-series was so high that on top of a special feature section in the monthly Previews magazine there were two special fan papers produced in the week before its relase.  One by Comic Shop News, the other by DC itself, a "Direct Currents Special". A large poster was printed to advertise the series and special cards with the cover reproductions to help promote each book and alert customers to the series colourful art.  A special limited edition "Variant Cover" was produced for the issue of All-Star Comics no.1 to give away at a conference, and the cover cards actually printed a variant cover to ASC#2! which was red instead of ice blue. In protest at the lack of a separate chapter for Dr Fate and The Spectre, Andrew Bistak produced his own cover mock up for "More Fun Comics no.1"
