Merlin's story
Merlin was rescued from a terrible situation in Western Victoria in June 2007. A few days after he arrived at Shelter he collapsed and had to be rushed to the Equine Hospital in Werribee.He was operated on immediately and six and a half bins of rotting hessian or carpet underlay were removed from his bowel. There was not enough food where he lived and as he was starving he had eaten whatever had been lying around the property.
He was in such poor condition that we thought he would not survive such extensive surgery, but thankfully he did. The one thing that was on his side was his young age of about five years. A few days later he was well enough to come home, and since then he has done nothing but eat!
After a long recovery period, he is now a very healthy boy and is enjoying life at Donkey Retreat in Tongala.
