| With great sadness we announce the death of Mano
on Monday the 12th February 2007 at 4.30pm. Mano developed an abscess in the bone of his foot, which had to be treated by removing part of the bone. After the surgery we expected him to get well again, but the infection spread from the bone into the wall of his foot. He was unable to stand on his leg and the pain would have been excruciating, and so there was no alternative but to have him put to sleep. Mano was a darling donkey and we will miss him so much. |

Mano's storyMano was in his mid thirties when he arrived at Donkey Shelter on the 4th of April 2004. His former owners had abandoned him when they had sold the property some years earlier. The new property owners did their best for him, but when he became lame, Donkey Shelter was asked to give him a home. He had a foot abscess, which was treated, but shortly afterwards he developed another in a different foot. This was also treated. It then became clear that Mano's eyesight was beginning to fail. This, and his susceptibility to abscessing feet, meant that he had to stay at Donkey Shelter for the rest of his life. |
