Lucy's storyLucy is Rachel's daughter. Both of them were surrendered by a family who had responded with good intentions to a "free to good home" advertisement.The family had no experience with donkeys, and could not catch them to groom and worm them. The farrier was also unable to catch them, and so the vet had to be called each time so that it could be done under general anaesthetic. Eventually the vet said it was not ethical to keep giving them anaesthetics, and some other solution should be found. Desperate for help, the family contacted the Donkey Society of Victoria, who referred them to Donkey Shelter, and we agreed to take their donkeys. Since their arrival both Lucy and Rachel have settled down and are now happy and contented donkeys who are used to being handled. |
