Christine's story

Christine was born at Donkey Shelter at 7.15 on a warm(23C/73F) Sunday morning on 21st October 2001.

Her mother is Phoebe, who was one of six donkeys whose owner had been reported to the RSPCA for neglect. The RSPCA then contacted Donkey Shelter, and so May and a group of volunteers found themselves driving to Buxton in order to rescue them.
Chrissy None had been named, so this was done on the way home to Donkey Shelter: Phoebe(who was pregnant), Gypsy(Phoebe's Mum), Sebastian, Vincent, Theo and PJ, as well as a one-eyed Shetland pony, Dicky Knee.

Chrissy's Dad is Theo and her brother is PJ. Because the owner neglected them, all the donkeys were allowed to breed with each other, and so Theo is Chrissy's father as well as her grandfather. If Donkey Shelter had not stepped in, this situation would have continued, and more neglected donkeys would be in need of rescue by now.

After Christine was born, Phoebe's Mum, Gypsy, came over, and it was the most beautiful, wonderful sight to see Phoebe nudge her new baby towards its grandmother to be inspected!

Chrissy is the very first foal to be born at Donkey Shelter, and will stay here as part of the fundraising team.
