Baby May |
In Memoriam |
With great sorrow we announce the death in May 2009 of our beloved Baby May. |
She was found dead in the paddock, of an unknown cause. She had not
shown any signs of illness or distress that day, and so, as she
was already elderly when she came to us, we can only surmise that
she had a heart attack. Baby May was a lovable, happy donkey who was very friendly with all her carers. She was one of the earliest donkeys to come to live at Donkey Shelter, and we will miss her very much. |

Baby May in May 2003 |
Baby May's storyBaby May came to Donkey Shelter after a Roman Catholic priest rang us and told us that he was very concerned about one of his parishioners. She was an elderly French lady called Chantelle, who had to sell her large property because her health was failing. Her main concern was her beloved old donkey, Baby May, who had been with her for many years. We rang Chantelle and told her about the Shelter and promised that Baby May would be well cared for. After assuring her that all our male donkeys were gelded, she agreed to let us have Baby May, who was delighted to be with all of the other donkeys. She very quickly settled in and soon became a fairly dominant herd member. She was always one of the first in line at feeding time! |
