Below is detailed information about Mother / Family / Baby clinics, some are residential while others are day visits, please contact the appropriate people to make appointments if you require this care. Many of our      members have used these clinics and have had positive results.






Distressed Infant's Clinic

Description:  The clinic is conducted by a maternal & child nurse and a child psychologist,  attending to babies with problems of prolonged distressed behaviour, e.g. poor feeding,      difficulties with settling to sleep, frequent night waking, separation difficulties, clingy, crying behaviour, difficulty weaning, irritable "unhappy" babies.

Focus is on trying to understand the problem and the history, and what strategies may best suit this baby.

The Distressed Infant Clinic is a private (not group) one hour session with no charge.(this clinic is not associated with DISA)





O'Connell Family Centre (Grey Sisters) Inc.

Description:  The O'Connell Family Unit offers services to families experiencing difficulties in the early stages of parenting, from 0 to 4 years.  These services include residential programs, day stay programs, lactation consulting service, counselling and pastroral care.

The centre is staffed by maternal & child health nurses,  midwives, child care workers and mothercraft nurses.  There is also a visiting doctor, counsellor and pastrol care worker.

Public hospital fees apply, and charges may be confirmed on making further inquiries.





Mitcham Mother / Baby Support Unit
Mitcham Private Hospital.

Description:  The Mother / Baby Support Unit, has been established to provide support and care to families experiencing difficulties that could range from:
·  ante natal anxiety / depression
·  lactation (breast feeding) difficulties
·  post natal depression
·  sleeping problems etc.

The unit is staffed by qualified midwives, many of whom have post-graduate qualifications in psychiatry / counselling. It is also supported by the Maternity Unit.Consulting staff are      available, if required, including psychiatrists, psyhologists, paediatricians and maternal and child health nurses.

Tweedle Child and Family Health Service.

Referral:  by GPs, Maternal & Child Health Nurses, or parents themselves.

Description: Tweedle provides a range of services to educate, support and assist families with children up to three years old.  They provide help with settling and sleep, feeding      problems, challenging toddler behaviour, uncertainty with parenting issues and post natal   depression or anxiety.

Families may stay at the Residental Unit or attend the Day Stay Programs.  Both are staffed by Family Nurse Practitioners.  Education seminars on a wide range of parenting issues are also held throughout the year.

Tweddle is a public hospital and costs are covered by Medicare, although there may be a small cost for some accompanying family members.  Parent seminars cost $10





Pathway Centre

Description:  The program is run by multidisciplinary team of experienced professional with particular expertise in parent-infant problems.  Members include:
·  consultant child and family psychiatrist
·  general practitioner and lactation consultant
·  clinical psychologist
·  general, psychiatric and maternal child health nurses.

The highest standards of care are maintained through an ongoing program of professional  supervision and education.

The Queen Elizabeth Centre

Description:  The Queen Elizabeth Centre  offers specialised support and education to   families experiencing difficulties adjusting to parenthood or managing the care of their infants or young children up to 5 years old. 

Services include a reidental program for families, day stay programs, home visiting Monday to Friday, and telephone advice.  Help is given with sleep and feeding difficulties, unsettled     behaviour and other parenting issues.  In addition  there are Saturday afternoon sessions on a range of parenting issues, and evening lectures on colic, lactose intolerance, asthma and attention deficit disorder.

QEC is a registered public hospital and fees are charged accordingly by the Department of Human Services Victoria.





South Eastern Private Hospital Early Parenting Centre

Referral:  by G.P., Maternal & Child Health Nurse, or parents themselves.

Description:  The Early Parenting Centre provides a range of programs designed to inform and support families with children up to 12 months of age.  It is staffed by maternal & child health nurses and preschool mothercraft nurses, all with additional qualifications, experience and knowledge in this field.  You may attend as an inpatient or as a day stay patient.

The day stay program provides support and care to families experiencing difficulties including maternal exhaustion, post natal anxiety and depression, feeding difficulties, settling problems, unsettled/irritable infants, reflux and colic.

Inpatients are admitted Monday at 8.30am and stay until Friday 11am.  The 4-day stay      provides a more intensive level of support and instruction.  This option often suits older       babies and parents experiencing greater difficulties

South Eastern Hospital has agreements with most health funds.  Those without insurance can attend the Day Stay Program under a separate fee structure.
