DISABILITY INFORMATION NETWORK AUSTRALIA (VICTORIA)
What is DINA?
Disability Information Network Australia (DINA) (Victoria) is a group of
disability information providers with interest in resource and information
sharing and networking. DINA has evolved as a forum for networking and as
a catalyst for developments in the disability information field.
DINA's mission statement and objectives are as follows:
Mission
The aim of DINA (Victoria) is to facilitate cooperation and communication between
information services for people with a disability in Victoria and all other states and territories.
Objectives
To ensure that information needs of people with disabilities are met in a
timely, competent and impartial manner, which reflects a consistently high
standard and is in accordance with Federal and State disability legislation.
DINA has the following objectives:
- to provide a common voice on disability information issues
- to develop policies and projects relating to disability
information
- to encourage consumer involvement in new projects and policy initiatives
- to improve compatibility of systems
- to exchange ideas about information collection, dissemination, storage and
retrieval
- to encourage resource sharing through joint programs and activities which
also include generic services
- to involve relevant government and non-government agencies as required
- to promote awareness of disability information services
WHIG ( Welfare & Health Interest Group)
WHIG was a network of librarians working in health and welfare libraries. Meetings focussed on sharing of information and resources in the health and welfare sectors. The group also shared information on issues to do with new computer technologies and In
ternet development. Early in 1999 DINA (Victoria) and WHIG merged as many members were part of both groups and dealt with issues of a similar nature.
Membership
Membership of DINA (Victoria) is open to any organization in Victoria having a significant commitment to
provision of information in the disability field. There is no membership fee.
