The Deep Lead Cemetery is situated on the left of the Western Highway 9 Km from Stawell. The Cemetery was not gazetted until March 7th 1873. But the earliest burial that we have recorded is that of James Carter who was born 1819 at Eastern Penhowe, Country of York, died at Deep Lead on the 19th April 1859 age 40 Years. There is no buriel register before December 3rd 1900. We have now recorded about 156 buriels at this stage.

The Gates at the cemetery were erected 1957. They were dedicated to Mr. Charles Davidson, a trustee of the Deep Lead Cemetery for Thirty-Three years. He did not live to see them completed, but was the first funeral to pass through them.

This is the grave of John Mc Clure, B,A, . He was an Oxford Graduate born at the Isle of Sky, he died at Deep Lead on 28th June 1859, age 46 years. He was the first Clerk of Courts of Petty Session . |

The grave of a Chinese man Ah King who died at Deep Lead July 15th 1909 age 85 years. And his daughter Evangeline Look, mother of 12 children who all attended the Deep Lead School. Evangeline died March 13th 1907, They all lived at Deep Lead.
