Architectural Philosophy

Amalgamated Theory, Design Thoery. 702-420

The work compiled here, was done as part of the Bachelor of Architecture degree, at The University of Melbourne. This work is being completed mid-year in 1996.

To follow are the assignments were completed for this subject.

  1. Review essay, students to read a minimum of 300 pages of text on or by a particular author. I have chosen Le Corbusier. What are the ideas behind the architecture and writings of Le Corbusier. A 2000 word document.

  2. Essay, Globalisation -How is the tension between globalisation and local culture being played out in Melbourne (city centre, suburbs, mega-projects)? How is design to proceed in the face of this dilemma? A 3000 word assignment.

  3. Journal, students are to prepare a journal identifying their thoughts on lectures. My journal is hand written, after each particular lecture. Equivalent of 2000 words.

With the completion of this subject, the lecturers hope that students will have further developed their critical view of the world. In fifth year the students are required to state their architectural philosophy, this subject is to help prepare for that.
