Joe passed away near Rathdowney in QLD on 29 July 1979. Joe was born 9 August 1936. He was discharged from the RAAF as a WOFF Engineer only a few months earlier. During his RAAF career he served at Richmond as an Engine Fitter then trained as a Loadmaster and served in Vietnam between 24 August 1964 and 17 May 1965 with the RAAF TFV (later 35SQN). In 1968 he was posted to Amberley to work on the "new" F-111, with the delivery of the aircraft delayed he was posted to 10 SQN in Townsville in 1971. He returned to RAAF Amberley in 1975 and was discharged in 1979. Joe left behind his wife Marjorie and their five children, four sons and one daughter. All four sons followed Joe into the RAAF. The eldest as a Navigator; the next two as Engine Fitter Apprentices on number 30 'Spiders' and number 35 'Rodents' intakes, and the youngest as an Adult Trainee Engine Fitter. His daughter married an Apprentice Engine Fitter off his son's Number 30 Apprentice Intake. |
