REUNION THOUGHTS

"Have I missed something ? From the Nowra minutes, Wacky volunteered to provide details on the Hamilton Island proposal & report same by May 09. Is his throwaway line about it being too expensive, that report, or is there more to follow?
Re your expanded poll (just actioned) why are exotic locations such as Darwin/ Kakadu, Cairns, Port Douglas etc now appearing for consideration when expense would obviously be a major factor also ruling them out?
Please also pass on my thanks & appreciation for the Nowra DVD recently received.
Just because you don't hear from me very often doesn't mean we are not interested in the next re-union.
Regards, Harry Devery"

"Hi Bill, Have just got back from 2 weeks in Melbourne visiting my son. I was thinking about the next reunion and thought forget Hamilton, way out of our price range, instead how about Cairns in either July/Aug 10. Lots of pluses, could travel up on the tilt train from Brisbane cheaply using our age discounts, great warm weather at that time, lots to do, reef trip one day, bus tour of the tableland incorporating the Kuranda train up and the aerial cablecar down the range. Heaps of accommodation and venues for our get togethers. Run it past the members and see what they think. - Regards Wacky"

"My thoughts (and actions) on the process of selecting and organising our reunions are:
  • Decide by a Poll what the timing parameters should be - this is done.
  • Publish proposed Reunion Planning Guidelines- this is done.
  • Ask for submissions for reunion venues - this was done in Nowra - Minutes of the Nowra Meeting.
  • Publish submitted proposals - this is done, but not all have applied the guidelines.
  • Allow for discussion - now underway.
  • Conduct a Poll of the Daffies to choose from the proposals - yet to be done.
  • Publish results of the Poll - to be done.
  • Allow any prospective volunteers to consider their involvement due to the choice.
  • Ask for volunteer organisers for the chosen proposal - yet to be done.
  • Let/help the organiser/s plan the reunion.
  • Turn up in numbers!
If I've missed something please let me know. - Bill Arden (Ed. & WMstr) "

"Hi. Bill, these are my thoughts. I have a bit of a problem. What has happened to the Daffy's 'can-do' attitude. Have we all become so complacent that we cannot organise our own reunion and have to get strangers who we do not know to organise something that is very easy and a lot less costly.
Why has the reunion got to be held in a major city?
What is wrong with a regional city or rural area where the costs could be a lot lower?
It can be done. - Regards Jack."

[Ed: Some of Jack's frustrations may be solveable by reference to the proposed Reunion Planning Guidelines. They are, of course, always open to revision or addition.]

"Hi Bill, Thanks for all the info, pity no one wants to organise it [the reunion].
My comments on the following: I believe we have too many choices, so I doubt you will get a result. When do you think the next reunion will be held?
By the way the DVD was a very good thought and we enjoyed it very much.
Cheers - Peter A"

[Ed: The statement in the Reunion Proposals summary "No Proponent has offered to organise the reunion so Volunteer reunion organisers will be required" was not meant to imply that no one wants to organise the reunion, just that no one has yet offered to.
I expect that the timing of the next reunion will now conform to the wishes expressed in the last e-poll that is, for 18-24 months between - so the answer should be 'sometime from March to October 2010'!
Our thanks for the DVD should go to our Nowra Reunion organisers - Jack and Graham.]
