Lilydale Fails to Launceston 17/21999  31km
Yahoos arrived and made loud noise most of the night (Vics and probably on something)  Occasional showers on way to Lonnie.  Couple of decent climbs but some brilliant descents.  In Lonnie by 11:00 am but raining.  Bumped into Carl and Kaye as we tried to find our way in Lonnie - about to fly out that day.  Car! was ill because they had overdone the riding, covering too much distance in the hills, They said the caravan park was too noisy and suggested we go to a cheap pub.  Found a hotel through the tourist bureau,  Sportsman's Hotel, $45 B&B per double.  Staying 2 nights.  Bikes locked in cellar.  Rain bucketed down as we walked around the city.  Shops flooded.  Found internet cafe and checked Email.  System failed so we had to rewrite our letter again later.  Dined at hotel - delicious.

Launceston 18/21999
Launceston Pub breakfast then off for a walk to Cataract Gorge.  Went over the gorge in the chairlift - spectacular.  Spent time in Mall and around shops.  Excellent mall, very impressive.  Lovely shade trees and plenty of seats.  Lunched in sunshine.  Len's leg started to spasm which made walking very difficult - eventually made it back to hotel for a rest.  Dined at Marias, a beautiful Italian restaurant, excellent service and meal.

Launceston to Ross 19/21999  85km
Took one and a half hours to get out of Lonnie.  Ended up going past the golf course where the Tassie Open was being played.  Lonnie sure has some steep hills.  Strong tailwind!  Went through Evandale where the penny-farthing race was to be held next day.  Saw a couple of riders with their bikes.  Rejoined the highway.  Undulating to flat on highway A1.  Plenty of traffic but wide verge so quite safe even with large trucks.  Campbell Town and Ross both very historic towns with beautiful buildings.  Evandale was also magnificent - well preserved buildings.  Noise from the highway absolutely awful.  Will be glad to get off it.  Ross caravan park has a lovely setting.

Ross to Richmond 20/2/1999 95km
Sunny.  Not sure how far we'll get today.  May have to have a roadside, camp.  Left Ross at 8:30 am, flat for a while then climbed for a long, long, way.  Got to the top to see a sign "St Peters Pass 462m"  Any wonder Len made it to 60 kph coming down!  Stopped for a counter lunch in Oatlands.  Noise and traffic on highway was deafening.  After turning off A1 it was brilliant - tail wind and down hill.  Stopped at Colebrook for ice creams and felt we could make it to Richmond.  One climb out of Colebrook then downhill continued.  In Richmond by 5:30pm.  Bought bottle of wine in Richmond pub to celebrate getting there.

Richmond to Hobart 21/2/1999  30km
Richmond to Hobart.  Sunny.  Went up Grasstree Hill in much easier than when we first started.  Are we stronger?  Returned to Sandy Bay Caravan Park.
