Choosing & Using Technologies in Education & Training
This checklist is intended to help you plan by identifying questions you should ask yourself and information you should acquire as part of your planning process.
The main guiding force of educational projects using technology should be the needs of learners and other clients and stakeholders. This is necessary to identify the educational outcomes and processes expected from the project, and to ensure that the project is soundly based in an understanding of learners' characteristics and needs.
| SUCCESS FACTORS | CHECKLIST |
|---|---|
| 1. The educational objectives of the project have been documented. (e.g. to raise skill levels in the target industry or enterprise; to contribute to regional or community development objectives etc.). | 1.1 What form of
documentation will you use?
1.2 Who will do the documentation? 1.3 What should happen as a result of the project that is not happening now? What difference will the project make? (e.g. to provide or increase access to training for learners in specified remote locations). 1.4 Will any needs remain unsatisfied? 1.5 Have any additional useful outcomes been identified? |
| 2. A decision has been documented about the award and accreditation requirements of the project. | 2.1 Who makes the decision? 2.2 How is it documented?2.3 How will recognition be ensured? |
| 3. External and internal clients and stakeholders have been identified (e.g. partners, industry or enterprise, government agencies, unions, members of your organisation, community groups, other education and training providers). |
3.1 How are they identified? 3.2 How is this documented? |
| SUCCESS FACTORS | CHECKLIST |
| 4. The needs and expectations of clients and stakeholders are identified and reflected in project plans (e.g. development of specified competencies within the enterprise; achievement of government priorities; increased enterprise profitability, etc.). | 4.1 What process will be
used?
4.2 How will the match of needs and expectations against project plans be assessed and revisited during the project? |
| 5. A process has been established for dealing with conflict between stakeholders within the project. | 5.1 What process will be
used?
5.2 Have all stakeholders agreed to the process? |
| SUCCESS FACTORS | CHECKLIST |
| 6. Stakeholders have identified any other initiatives with which they are involved which might influence the choice of technology (e.g. current government/ education agency priorities relating to online technologies; industry clients or partners installation of technologies in the workplace, etc.). | 6.1 What process will be
used to elicit this information?
6.2 How will this information be used to inform the project development? 6.3 How will stakeholders confidentiality be protected if commercially sensitive information is necessary for the project? |
| 7. Plans have been put in place to obtain the support of stakeholders not directly involved in the project, and other potentially influential groups. | 7.1 Do you need the support of outside
groups if the project is to succeed? (e.g. if the
project will have a community impact as well as
educational aims).
7.2 How will you secure this support? (e.g. by means of champion groups or consultative forums). |
