Media Release from CRRA Inc.

Election day 26th November 2005 was a great triumph for those members of the Cardinia Shire Community who wanted to see changes in the Council and expressed that opinion via the ballot box.

There was an extraordinary gathering of community members at the Shire Offices at 10 am on Sunday 27th November to hear the formal announcement of the election results by the VEC rep.

There were further large gatherings of the community at the swearing in ceremony on Monday 28th November and the Statutory Meeting on Monday 5th December to elect the Mayor.

CRRA congratulates Councillor Bill Ronald on his election as Mayor and also the newly elected Councillors Brett Owen, Bill Pearson and Ed Chatwin who, together with re-elected Councillor Ronald, will work to achieve the changes anticipated by the ratepaying and resident community.

We trust that re-elected Councillors Legge, Lempriere and Hamilton will work harmoniously with the new Councillors to achieve good results for the community.

CRRA looks forward to working co-operatively with the new council to achieve improved communi-cation and increased community input. There is a lot of hard work to be done and it is important that we support and encourage the new councillors and advise them of the community's expectations. This is the role of ratepayers' association and we all need to work effectively on that basis.

It is significant that CRRA is now being recognised as the means by which control of our local government will be returned to our representative Councillors who can be assisted by a co-operative and capable administrative body.
