
* Six out of the seven Australians to take a Test Match hat-trick have been Victorians - Hugh Trumble twice, Tommy Matthews twice, Lindsay Kline, Merv Hughes, Damien Fleming and Shane Warne.
* P.G.McShane straight drove an all run seven on the Adelaide Oval in 1880 during Victora's match with South Australia. His feat was achieved without the benefit of over-throws when the ball stopped just inside the boundry.
* Fred 'Demon' Spofforth took all 20 wickets (for 48 runs) in a minor match in Bendigo in 1881/82
* P.G.McShane was caught out by his team-mate G.Alexander, who was fielding as substitute during Victoria's match with the Hon.I.F.W.Blight's XI (Melbourne 1882/83).
* That man again; P.G.McShane was nominated as 12th man in a Test Match against England in 1884/85 and was then called up to umpire the match when the apponted umpire withdrew. Five umpires were engaged in this MCG match.
* W.H. Scotton, playing for Smokers against Non-Smokers at the old East Melbourne ground in 1886/87, decided to souvenir the ball at the end of the match. He played the final ball softly towards point and ran to pick it up. Upon appeal he was given out for handling the ball.
* The first time umpires wore white was in 1887/88 during Victoria's game against G.F. Vernon's XI at the MCG
* During the 1896 Melbourne/North Melbourne match State representative Robert McLeod was run out without facing a ball in both innings
* B.C.E.Kemp was caught out by his team-mate H.C.Maplestone, who was fielding as substitute during Victoria's match with Tasmania (Melbourne 1897/98)
* The shade temperature on the four days of the Victoria - New South Wales match in Melbourne (1897/98) was (in celsius) as follows: 39.4, 41.6, 42.2 and 42.2.
* Wicket-keeper Tom Hastings became the first number 11 batsman to score a century - Victoria vs South Australia at the MCG in season 1902/03
* E.F.Waddy was out after playing a ball from G.R.Hazlitt which glanced from his (Waddy's) head and was caught at point by F.J.Laver (Victoria vs New South Wales - Melbourne 1908/09).
* Eight different umpires officiated during Victoria's match with Tasmania at Launceston (1908/09).
* Western Australia scored only one boundary in their total of 89 against Victoria (Fremantle 1909/10) this came courtesy of an over-throw.
*Jimmy Matthews took two Test Match hat-tricks in the one match (vs South Africa in 1912). In each case they were the only three wickets he took in the innings.
* Bertie Ironmonger made his Test Cricket debut in 1928/29; 18 years and 299 days after making his State debut for Victoria
* The great Bill Ponsford was colour blind
* Leslie Fleetwood-Smith took five wickets in an innings 31 times in just 51 games for Victoria.
* Keith Rigg batted for Victoria 116 times without ever recording a not out.
* The 1956/57 Victoria/New South Wales fixture was played at the Junction Oval as the MCG had been adjusted to accomadate the Olympic Games. This match was also the first televised first class match in Australia and it finished in a tie.
* The Centenary Test at the MCG in 1977 finished with exactly the same result as the very first Test 100 years before - victory to Australia by 45 runs.
* Victoria beat New South Wales on the last ball of the match on the last day of the year in 1979
* During Victoria's match with Tasmania in 1979/80 current coach John Scholes scored 126 eventually being dismissed by his nephew Mark who took 5 wickets for 86 runs
* John Scholes - Victoria's 12th man against Western Australia in 1980/81 was called on to umpire during the second day when offical umpire Robin Baillache withdrew due to illness
* Victoria tied their match with New Zealand in 1982 when both sides scoring 475 runs
* In a match during the 1986/87 season Victorian Wicket-keeper Michael Dimattina took 6 catches in a innings off the bowling of Denis Hickey
*Dean Jones set an Australian record 12 sixes in an innings in making 248 against Warwickshire in 1989
* Victorian Wicket-keeper Darren Berry, whilst playing against Western Australia, has twice been out stumped by a replacement Wicket-keeper of the bowling of the usual Wicket-keeper. During season 1991/92 by D.Martyn off the bowling of T.Zoehrer and the following season by M.Veletta off T.Zoehrer.
* In early 1992 Shane Warne became the first graduate of the Australian Cricket Academy to represent Australia in a Test Match.
* When Shane Warne dismissed England's Mike Gatting at Old Trafford in 1993 he became the first to bowl his opponent with his first delivery in Anglo-Australian cricket history
* In 1995 Shane Warne became the first to take 50 Test wickets or more in three successive years.
* When Dean Jones scored 127 against Pakistain at the MCG in 1995 it was his 5th century in a row against that country - 116 and 121 for Australia in 1990 and 134 not out and 105 for Durham (England) in 1992.
* Matty Elliott became the first Victorian Institute of Sport graduate to represent Australia in 1996.
* Damien Fleming took Australia's first ever wicket in Commonwealth Games competition in 1998.
