Rally Report

January 20 - 22, 2012
New Year in Glenrowan

Written by Jim Nicol

Our January rally was at the picturesque township of Glenrowan, made famous in history as the place our most famous bushranger, Ned Kelly was captured.

Glenrowan as a township is surviving on the Kelly intrigue, if you want anything apart from souvenirs you have to drive to Wangaratta.

We started our weekend on Friday evening by visiting the local hotel for dinner, I think when we all walked in the locals thought the town had been taken over. The meal was pretty good with a lot of "Kelly Chicken" ordered from the menu.

Saturday started out warm and got hotter as the day progressed with a top temperature of around 38 degrees. This brought on a lot of sitting around in the shade or keeping the body cool in the parks swimming pool.

We were checked out by the local Wedgetail Eagle as it circled overhead but we obviously did not suit its diet. There was plenty of wild life around with different types of birds, kangaroos and a possum that Lucy (Vanessa's dog) put up a tree.

We had our bi-annual General Meeting on Saturday afternoon with everybody attending, it was good to hear so many people contributing, an email of the minutes has already been distributed, and I suppose that means I'm slow getting this report out. (Ed. Not so Jim)

Following the meeting it was barbeque time, more sitting around talking and eating before heading off the bed and a well earned sleep, all this sitting around relaxing is tiring.

Sunday as always is a day when most pack up and head home, this one was different because the Glenrowan Caravan Park does not stand on ceremony and send you packing by 10 o'clock; we went and spoke to Gary, the owner, who was most obliging and had no objection to us staying until after lunch.

Again Sunday morning was a time for sitting around talking and drinking tea/coffee and chasing the shade.

Judy and I both enjoyed ourselves as we always do because we are amongst a great group of people, from various walks of life and occupations, who are there to enjoy themselves and sit around, talk, relax and drink tea/coffee.

Geoff has supplied some photos of wildlife we saw and group shots of, you guessed it, people sitting around etc. Thanks Geoff.
