| At its meeting in February 2008, the Cradle
Coast Authority Board (www.cradlecoast.com)
endorsed the Coming Out Proud Program and appointed a
Liaison Officer (Karen Hampton) to pursue the COPP
objectives with the nine Councils The Coming Out Proud
Program will operate through the establishment of the Cradle
Coast Community Liaison Committee and with representation
from the local sexually- and gender-diverse Community, as
well as an advisory panel with bipartisan political party
representation as well as representatives from Police,
Health and Human services, Education, Tourism and GLBTI
special services.
The Committee is developing a management plan in cooperation with local government and private professional services with the following aims: |
|
To achieve equality of access and respect within the region's community for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and intersex (GLBTI) people. To support the region's community to create a climate where GLBTI people are able to be accepted and celebrated as full, contributing and proud members of the general community. To develop a model of best practice in relation to the development of COPP in the region for use in other regions. |
|
A budget allocation of $1,000 has already been raised to establish and support the Cradle Coast CLC. In addition there is another $1,000 allocated to the West Coast that would also be available given the coverage of the Cradle Coast Authority. A special Community Liaison Committee Forum is being arranged for May 2008 to confirm the Terms of Reference and conduct an initial search for the GLBTI local issues and needs that will inform the COPP management plan at the local level. The Cradle Coast CLC meets on the first Thursday of every month. In 2008: August 7th, September 4th, October 2nd, November 6th and December 4th. Venue: Bass and Flinders Motel, Eastland Drive, Ulverstone Time: 6:30pm - 8:30pm ALL WELCOME |
