    Science and the monster movie
A movie monster is most often born of science or dispensed with by science. Whether from space, a lab or from out of ancient ground this icon has a long film history tied to public views of science. Science fiction is used as a text in many high schools, and for many different purposes. However, is it used effectively, are the texts chosen good ones, and how much more can be done with it? This paper reflects on these issues, and will suggest some ways in which SF can be used in education, and some texts which have worked in the past.
