About ConVergence 2002
ConVergence 2002 is the Australian National Science Fiction Convention (NatCon) to be held in Melbourne from 7-10th June 2002. It will be the 50th Anniversary of the event, an important milestone that many SF&F professionals and fans alike will not miss.
ConVergence 2002 will provide an environment where the diverse elements of the Australian science fiction and fantasy community can meet and explore mutual interests, exchange ideas and develop commonalities. The convention committee has forged strong links with fans and science fiction professionals around Australia, ensuring that it will be the most important Australian SF&F event in 2002 and expected to attract over 400 people.
A multi-streamed program will feature not only Guests of Honour Joe and Gay Haldeman, Lucy Sussex, Sean Williams, Race Mathews, and Toast master Jack Dann, but also the cream of Australian SF&F authors. Various other activities comprising fannish and professional items will provide a wide-range of science fiction and fantasy activities allowing delegates to explore provocative ideas related to the world of speculative fiction.
The national science fiction convention has not been held on the east coast of Australia since 1998 and Melbourne presents an ideal opportunity to do so again. Victoria's capital is a vibrant, multicultural city with a long and active association with science fiction. The convention site will be at a quality venue, in a central location convenient to other facilities and amenities in Melbourne, such as public transport, restaurants, entertainment venues, tourist attractions, other hotels, and the central business and retail district.
