February 2004

We had a wonderful talk given to us by Michael Abney Hastings of Jerilderie.  He is the man that many respected researchers have proven to be the rightful king of England. He gave us an insight into the circumstances leading to the pronouncement of his right to the English Throne with a sneak preview to the documentary that will be shown in Australia later in the year shows evidence that Edward IV was illegitimate, therefore making his families claim to the throne invalid and so by research have traced Michael to have a rightful claim to the throne. Michael had a wonderful pedigree chart he displayed for us that is 14 feet long and written in Latin. The original is held in the British Museum and is valued at over 1 million dollars.  Many thanks to Mike for his time in coming to talk and entertain us with his stories.

Michael Abney Hastings is the 14th Earl of Loudoun, The Earl of Loudoun is a title in the Peerage of Scotland, created in 1633. The title is associated with the title Lord Tarrinzean and Mauchline (created 1633), which is used as a courtesy title for whomever is the heir and eldest son of the Earl for the time being.  He is the son of Barbara Hastings, 13th Countess of Loudoun.  Barbara Hastings, 13th Countess of Loudoun (1919-2002) became Countess in 1960. She married three times, and lived in Ashby-de-la-Zouch in Leicestershire, England. She was a member of the House of Lords until 1999 when the right of hereditary peers to sit in the Lords was abolished, and was a cross-bencher, concerned with social justice. When she died, she was succeeded by her son, Michael Hastings, 14th Earl of Loudoun.

March 2004

Visits from Helen Cornish and Vin Kennedy to discuss the Historical Precinct, where it was decided which room the group would like to have for the research material and meetings as well as sharing our room with Historical Group and Historical Precinct Committee for their meetings. We look forward to moving into our new room in the coming months and will be able to display our resources in a more user friendly manner.

April 2004

Wendy Eldridge came and spoke to the group about researching your family history. Wendy provided some information regarding NSW records as she had some experience using these records. Wendy then explained her methods of storing records to enable her easy access to records at any time with many useful suggestions. Of particular interest was the photo album that contained all her family photos. The album contained photocopies of the original photos. If they were lost, stolen or damaged it did not matter she still had the originals stored safely away. Wendy and her partner are now indexing the Cobram Courier; they have started work on the first reel which they expect to take 2 to 3 months. We look forward to having access to this valuable resource.  A family history record book which was developed by Wendy was shown to the members. We purchased copies of these and sold them to our members with profits going to the group to purchase more resources. Thanks for coming and talking to us Wendy.

May 2004

Our Annual AGM was held with Graeme Hickey making history being our first male President in the history of the Group with Barbara Coleman, Rick Gardiner and Nicole Close returning as Secretary, Treasurer and Vice President. Many thanks to all the wonderful work done by our outgoing President Gloria Primmer.

Gloria, Betty, Barb and Jan told us about the highlights of the conference in Mildura.
