- COAL was formed in 1994 to work towards the end of discrimination against lesbians.
- COAL lobbies the Australian Commonwealth and State Governments to remove discrimination against lesbians.
- COAL is Australia's national lesbian advocacy orginisation and is the only United Nations Accredited lesbian Non Government Organisation.
- We work with the U.N. Convention to Eliminate all forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) and were active at the 4th World Conference on Women, Beijing, 1995.
