Composer Profile 7
Frederic Chopin
The Original Piano Man.
When one thinks of the piano, one thinks of Chopin.
Not only did he dominate the piano, he was the quintessential romantic, setting the scene for all stars to come.
He had all the hallmarks of immortality; he was a child prodigy, a genius, fought for a cause through his music, knew all the right people, had a semi-scandalous affair and he died young.
Generally, Chopin wrote great sets of pieces with the same name. For example, there are something like 51 Mazurkas, 19 Nocturnes, 17 Waltzes, 15 preludes, and more.
His music is melodic and passionate:
- Ballade no.3 in A-flat Major, op.47
- Etudes, op.25 no.2 in f minor
- Fantasie-Impromptu (No.4) in c-sharp minor, op.66
- Mazurka in D major, op.33, no.2
- Nocturne (no.8) in d-flat major, op.27, no.2
- Piano Concerto No. 2 in f minor, op.21 2. Larghetto
- Préludes, op. 28 (especially) no.4 in e minor / no.7 in A major / no.9 in e minor / no.15 in D flat major Raindrop / no.17 in A flat minor / no.20 in c minor
- Polonaise in A major, op.40, no.1, Militaire
- Waltz in A flat, Op. 34, no. 1, Grand Valse Brilliante
- Waltz in c minor, op.64, no.2
