Soothing Stuff 6
Lay your hands on
The piano really comes into its own... on its own!
As the piano has the natural advantage of being able to play quite contentedly with itself, it has none of the limitations of most other instruments. Some may argue for the pre-eminence of the sound of the guitar or the violin but they lack the overall range of expression, power and dynamic contrast. In its creation of musical peace and tranquillity, the piano is peerless.
Here are just some examples of the old romantic in action.
- Bach Goldberg variations, BWV 988 Aria
- Bach Preludes and Fugues - Book 1 No.1 Prelude in C major, BWV 846
- Beethoven Für Elise (Bagatelle in a minor, WoO 59)
- Brahms Three Intermezzos, op.117 No.1 in E flat Major
- Chopin Berceuse in D-flat major, op.57
- Chopin Etudes, op.10 no.3 in E major
- Liszt Consolation No.3
- Mozart Piano Sonata (No. 16) in C major, K545 1. Allegro
- Schubert Impromptus, D 935 No.2 in A-flat major
- Schumann Kinderszenen, op. 15 Von fremden Ländern und Menschen (From foreign lands and people) & Träumerei (Dreaming)
