Soothing Stuff 6
Lay your hands on

The piano really comes into its own... on its own! Sunset, Watsons Bay, Sydney NSW

As the piano has the natural advantage of being able to play quite contentedly with itself, it has none of the limitations of most other instruments. Some may argue for the pre-eminence of the sound of the guitar or the violin but they lack the overall range of expression, power and dynamic contrast. In its creation of musical peace and tranquillity, the piano is peerless.

Here are just some examples of the old romantic in action.

  1. Bach – Goldberg variations, BWV 988 – Aria
  2. Bach – Preludes and Fugues - Book 1 – No.1 Prelude in C major, BWV 846
  3. Beethoven – Für Elise (Bagatelle in a minor, WoO 59)
  4. Brahms – Three Intermezzos, op.117 – No.1 in E flat Major
  5. Chopin – Berceuse in D-flat major, op.57
  6. Chopin – Etudes, op.10 – no.3 in E major
  7. Liszt – Consolation No.3
  8. Mozart – Piano Sonata (No. 16) in C major, K545 – 1. Allegro
  9. Schubert – Impromptus, D 935 – No.2 in A-flat major
  10. Schumann – Kinderszenen, op. 15 – Von fremden Ländern und Menschen (From foreign lands and people) & Träumerei (Dreaming)
