Your Entry point to the World of Classical Music
Do you want to hear some really good Classical music? Are you seeking out something you heard that was interesting, or catchy? Perhaps you've already heard a bit and would like to know a little more? Finding "tuneful" classical music for the first time is like trying to find
a good wine; there are hundreds of brands, lots of different varieties and you don't even trust your palate. Worst of all, If you end up buying plonk it'll put you off trying again! Working behind the counter of a record shop over the years, I found
that many people enjoyed the classical music they were exposed to
in daily life. It might have been a snippet on TV, a movie theme, or even
a mobile phone ring tone. However, once they tried to find a new piece on their own, they'd be overwhelmed by the amount of music that was available. They often wouldn't know where to start. This site is set up to help you do just that. Most of the recommendations that
follow are "tried-and-true". They are pieces that I've found to be popular in the record shops,
though my own exploration and through research.
Recommendations are listed out in thematic
groups of ten. If you like one piece on a page, chances are you will like the others. I
have even thrown in a few home photos to make it easier on the eye! For those who are interested, I talk more about why I think classical music is important in
my introduction.
If classical music is new to you, then you might also need a quick tutorial
to come to grips with some of the arcane aspects of classical music. Otherwise you can happily start at the one of the pages of lists, below. |
