An example of developing your search from a particular privatisation
issue to more general related material
You might be interested in the privatisation of electricity, and search the main database with the key words 'privatisation' and 'electricity'. This search finds several records, each of which has its key words listed near the top of the record. You notice that several of these records have the key word 'Victoria', and several have the key word 'accountability'.
There are now three ways you can develop your inquiry.
If you are only interested in the privatisation of electricity, you can work
with the records that have already been found, and then leave the database.
Because you have noticed that many of these records refer to Victoria, you
might be interested in seeing what other privatisations have happened in
Victoria, so you do another search on 'privatisation' and 'Victoria', and
scan the key words listed for these new records to see what other areas (gas,
schools, etc) are represented. You could then get a better overall view of
how the privatisation of electricity in Victoria fits in with other
privatisations in that state, and with the state government's privatisation
policy.
Because you have noticed that several of the records from your original search
have the key word 'accountability', you might decide to explore the relationship
between privatisation and accountability, so you search on this new key
word.
Some of the records you get from this new search will be about accountability
as a general citizenship concern, and may be quite theoretical. If you find
the theory too difficult, you could go to the Dictionary and read the entry
on 'accountability' to get an introduction to this concept.
Other records you get from this new search will be about accountability and privatisation in other areas such as gas or schools, and you could then see how the general issues that come up in the privatisation of electricity are part of broader issues concerned with privatisation.
