DETAILS ABOUT THE CHOIR

Vision statement / Artistic goals: To rehearse and perform good choral music from any period, with particular attention to the music of the sixteenth, seventeenth and eighteenth centuries

Voice type: SATB

Choir performs: Both accompanied & unaccompanied

Musical Repertoire: Good choral music of all periods, both sacred and secular - Bach, Byrd, Haydn, Mendelssohn, Brahms, Britten, Vaughan Williams

Musical Director: Andrew Blackburn

No. of years in current post: since 2009

Previous musical experience: Andrew is a well-known Melbourne musician whose musical activities include performances as organist and choral conductor with major national and international organizations; His conducting has won awards in both Europe and Australia, including the Bela Bartok International Choral Competition in Debrecen, Hungary; Andrew has a particular love for both early and contemporary music, having commissioned new works for both choir and organ; His recordings include Six Organ Concertos - G. F. Handel, Christmas Joy and "A Ceremony of Carols", and BACH Sacred Songs and Chorus; Andrew is the foundation director of Kinross House, an arts centre based in Toorak, which has an excellent reputation for its various arts programmes; He is currently completing doctoral studies through Queensland Conservatorium, developing new performance techniques

Audition: Yes - Solo audition with Musical Director, no prepared piece required

Minimum Attendance policy - Rehearsals: Yes Concerts: No

Membership Fees: $160 p.a.

Ability to read music: Highly desirable

Sight-reading ability: Desirable

 

REHEARSAL ARRANGEMENTS

Usual rehearsal night(s): Wednesday, plus some Saturdays (PM)
