DETAILS ABOUT THE CHOIR

Vision statement / Artistic goals: To provide a supportive environment for people to develop their singing ability and a sense of belonging to a community group; to strengthen community links, and to have fun

Choir performs: Unaccompanied

No. of Singing Members - Currently: Hurstbridge group 25, Warrandyte group 30 Desired: no limit

Musical Repertoire: Eclectic - original, varied world music, gospel, classic tunes, pieces that members bring to the choir, etc

Musical Director: Nerida Kirov

No. of years in current post: since 1993 (choir founder)

Previous musical experience: Experienced performer, both as soloist and in various groups, with musicians and a capella; Degree in Music Composition; Music teacher at the Steiner School

Choir's past collaborations with other musical groups: Shared concerts with Phoenix, and many others over the years; the choirs work with a local percussion group; many performances given at various local community events

 

JOINING REQUIREMENTS

Audition: No, open to all

Minimum Attendance policy - Rehearsals: No Concerts: No

Membership Fees: weekly fee of $9, or a term fee at an average of $8 per week ($7 conc.)

Ability to read music: Not necessary

Sight-reading ability: Not necessary

Performance Apparel: Colour theme of purple and black - each individual chooses their own items of clothing, and any shades of purple are acceptable

Sample of the Choir's past Concert Venues: local Festivals, Petrie Park Hall, Ivanhoe Uniting Church, Eltham Community Centre, etc

Examples of musical pieces performed: Different combinations of individual songs from a very eclectic repertoire; programs are often put together around a relevant theme, eg. for the "Welcome Platypus Festival" or for an art display opening (Aboriginal and African pieces)
