DETAILS ABOUT THE CHOIR

Vision statement / Artistic goals: Chosen by Qantas to represent the "Spirit of Australia" and seen by millions of people performing at major Australian events, the Australian Girls Choir is an organisation that trains girls aged between 5 and 18 years in singing, dance and drama, across 4 states; Judith Curphey founded the choir in 1984 and 18 years later her dream is a reality; there are more than 2800 young girls in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney discovering the joy of music-making, the exhilaration of dance and the irresistible magic of song; the Australian Girls Choir continues to wow audiences throughout Australia and around the world with their beautiful voices, dazzling steps and spectacular presentation

Previous musical experience: Judith founded the choir in 1984; prior to that Judith had a distinguished career as a music educator and Director of Music for over 20 years in Victorian schools

Choir's past collaborations with other musical groups: Over the years, the choir has performed with numerous choirs, orchestras and solo artists, at public engagements, on tour, etc.

 

JOINING REQUIREMENTS

Audition: Varies depending on age; for girls aged 5-8 years, tryout classes; for girls aged 9 years and over, by audition

Membership Fees: Fees vary according to level

Ability to read music: Not necessary

Sight-reading ability: Not necessary
