Training and Meetings
The Brigade meets on the first Wednesday of each month at the South Station, Catani Blvd, Bend of Islands.
Members also have a responsibility to attend the Brigade for general maintenance and equipment checks in accordance with Brigade Standing Orders.
Training is held at the fire station every Sunday morning between 9:30 am and 12:00pm
Minimum Skills Acquisition
All new members serve a probationary period of up to six months, during which time the individual and the Brigade can assess if they are right for each other.
If you choose to perform a firefighter role you will need to obtain the Wildfire Firefighter minimum skills covering:
- Personal Safety
- Map Reading
- Communications
- Wildfire Behaviour
- Wildfire Suppression
Members can particpate in further trainng for specialist areas including:
- Driving emergency vehicles
- Breathing apparatus (CABA)
- Rescue
- Specialist courses conducted at one of the CFA's training colleges
Brigade members interact with the community in people's homes, their workplaces and outside. Respect for other people, their privacy and their property is paramount.
We expect members of the Brigade to be:
- Dedicated to our community and to the Brigade
- Self motivated
- Reliable
- Honest
- Committed to safety
We need people who are:
- Willing to learn and participate
- Willing to be part of a team
- Able to regularly attend Brigade activities
- Able to respond to emergencies
- Able to follow instructions promptly
- Able to assist with our wider community actvities
