What is Cafe Benders?Cafe Benders is a monthly social occasion where members of the community gather in the South (Catani Boulevard) Fire Station to have a cuppa and a chat. The coffee is magnificent and there is cake if you are early enough!Each month there is a theme of some sort. Sometimes it is breakfast; Neill Kamminga does a roaring trade in bacon or vegie burgers and eggs. Another month there might be a bring and buy stall and usually there are a few local artists with their wares on display. Proceeds from these all go to the Fire Brigade. Brigade PublicityInformation on fire safety and fire prevention is always available at the fire station and Cafe Benders provides an opportunity for members of the community to obtain this. There is always an officer or experienced fire fighter in attendance as a Brigade contact.When is Cafe Benders?Cafe Benders (the name comes from Bend of Islands) is on the third Saturday of each month and runs from 10.00 am until noon. As always, there is work involved in setting up, operating and cleaning up and, again as always, it seems to fall to the same few people to do this. If you can help, please do!
