FISCHERANDOM RULES

In early January, I enquired at one of the chess newsgroups about the rules for Fischerandom.

Here is a summary of the rules.

Rules are the same as for normal chess except the starting position of the pieces and the castling rules.

Pawns start normally, white pieces are shuffled randomly along the first rank with the condition the the king must be between the 2 rooks. Black pieces are placed as a mirror image of the white ones.

Normal castling rules apply (e.g. can't move out of check), the position AFTER castling is the same as normal chess. eg. white kc1,rd1 or kg1,rf1

There are nearly 1000 possible positions. A simple computer program can be used to shuffle the white pieces, I suggest using a 6 sided die as a practical alternative in the order K(1-6), QR, KR, B, B, Q Knights take the remaining 2 squares.

Have a try! No opening theory to learn.
