This diagram shows a form of the opposition.
If it were a race to one of the squares,
d2, e2 or f2, then whoever moved first would
lose the race.
When there are only kings and pawns left it may be an advantage to have the kings in opposition. What are the other 14 squares the black king (or the white king) could be on so that the kings are in opposition?
